Christmas Newsletter

December 2018

Another Christmas is fast approaching and so are all the Cruise ships. Fortunately, there are no ships in port on Christmas Day this year not like 2017 and a photo was taken of that train near North Taieri.

In order to bring you up to date in relation to the outcome of the special General meeting and a brief update given at the Annual General Meeting, negotiations are still continuing between the DCH Ltd and Dunedin Railways and at this stage there is nothing to report. A proposal has been made to both organisations and all we can do is just wait

At the Executive Meeting held immediately after the AGM the following appointments were made:-

  • Chairman                        David Wood

  • Deputy Chairman        Murray Scofield

  • Committee                      Diane Nader, Brian Crabbe, John Chapman, John Pritchard, Pat Beman

The positions of Secretary and Treasurer are with Murray and David respectively and the Committee would also welcome offers from any one to take on either of these two positions.

A question was been raised in regard to subscriptions for volunteers working on the trains in particular. Like all organisations there are always ongoing costs, paper, ink, accounting costs legal costs where the Trust is advocating on your behalf with Dunedin Railways. In addition, we have made various funds available to purchase such items as defibrillators for use on the trains and station platform. Just a gentle reminder to those who have not paid their subscriptions the bank account number is SBS 03-1355-0660272-00 and please ensure you include your name and invoice number.

As we come to the Christmas Season as Chairman I want to say a very special thankyou to all the volunteers who have given up time to work on the trains and deal with all the new instructions being given for this and that but at the same time working with the cruise ship visitors so that they enjoy the experience of the trip up the Gorge. In recent days the Taieri River was been spectacular and the comments from passengers has been very interesting - one - "when can we go rafting." Thanks also to the Executive for their support during the year. Have a marvelous Christmas with your families and all the best for 2019 whatever that may bring.
